I have been co-teaching at a career and technical school for almost a year and have experienced difficult situations. One of which students favor me over the other instructor. We currently do modular teaching where students get to see both instructors. I have a more structured curriculum as opposed to my co-worker who’s lesson planning is at the last minute. Need I mention more..
I do not want to mention this to my administrator due to the fact I will be perceived to be negative. I will let the students do the talking..
I had a sped teacher in a class all year. It can be very effective; however, expecting a sped teacher to be as knowledgeable as the core/elective teacher on a topic is unfair without plan time. We specifically did individual teaching, some one on one tutoring, and dividing the class into two groups. It was fine, but not really what I learned as a true coteaching classroom.
I am a special education teacher at the high school level and my experience has been positive depending on the teacher I work with. The most effective co-teaching model is when the teachers share correcting and teaching responsibilities. The most ineffective, the special education teacher sits back while the regular education teacher does all the teaching. Regular education teachers are knowledgeable about content, however, many are not knowledgeable regarding brain function, processing disorders, and overall learning theory and pedagogy. In my experience, many regular education teachers see themselves as the true teacher whereas the special ed. teacher is a helper. Administrators should insist on training.
co-teaching means adaptability test to the new classroom and expecially for the new international curriculum. In our international school there’s a difference between co-teacher and technical assistant. The co-teacher can do both teaching and assiting in the lab school but the technical only as engineering who mentoring the lab.However doing that kind of job really amazing to me.danke…
