Vice Admiral David G. Farragut. He was the US Navy's first Rear Admiral and Four-Star Admiral. He captured New Orleans and won the Battle of Mobile Bay. This effectively closed the Confederacy's gulf access and limited European assistance. At a crucial moment in the Battle of Mobile Bay, he said, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead."
