Federal Commanding Officers

Major General Winfield S. Hancock. He commanded troops in the Peninsular Campaign and at Antietam, Fredricksburg and Chancellorsville. He later became Corps Commander under General Meade and actually made the decision to fight at Gettysburg. He was severely wounded at the battle. He became the Democratic candidate President in 1880 but was defeated by James A. Garfield.
