Civil War Photographs:
Battlefields and Vicinity

Courtesy of Library of Congress, Prints & Photographs Division, LC-B8171-0504 DLC

This is a view of the battlefied at Cedar Mountain where a small battle took place approximately two weeks before the main clash at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run. In this battle, a subordinate of Major General Pope (U) met the Jackson Brigade. Pope's forces were soundly defeated and suffered 30% casualties. Unfortunately for the Union army, this was merely a foreshadowing of things to come.
