Definition: Based on the work of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs, Positive Discipline is a non-punitive discipline system of classroom management that focuses on positive behaviors instead of negative ones. It focuses on mutual respect, looking for and addressing the causes of misbehavior, and effective communication amongst other things.
A simple example of positive discipline in the classroom might be if a teacher acknowledges and praises students who are sitting quietly and paying attention instead of focusing on students who are misbehaving.
