Americans with Disabilities Act

Definition: According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which took effect in 1992 prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in job application procedures, hiring, firing, advancement, compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions and privileges of employment.In order to be considered qualified, the individual must be able to perform the job with or without accommodations. Further, a company must make an accommodation for a qualified employee as long as it wouldn't impose an undue hardship on the business.
